Moissanite - An Ethical Gem We Truly Love

Moissanite has become a great choice for engagement rings. It is durable, ethically grown, and is less expensive per carat than a diamond.

We have partnered with a leading Moissanite provider in North America to offer our clients premium quality colourless stones in nearly all shapes and sizes.

WHAT IS MOISSANITE?

In 1893, Dr. Henri Moissan, a Nobel Prize winning scientist, discovered sparkly particles in the Arizona desert that were the result of a meteorite falling to Earth. The mineral, he discovered, was made of Silicon Carbide (SIC) and was later named Moissanite in honour of him.

Moissanite is extremely rare and is not found naturally occurring on Earth. The amount of Moissanite from meteorites is in such small quantities that it is not used in jewelry.

In 1998, Charles and Colvard was granted patents to create and sell lab grown Moissanite gemstones, becoming the first company to do so. In 2018, their world-wide patents had expired and other companies started to grow and sell the Moissanite as well.

WHY CHOOSE MOISSANITE?

  • Durability: Moissanite gemstones are a 9.25 on the Mohs Hardness Scale, making them suitable for everyday wear.
  • Sparkle: Moissanite has a refractive index from 2.65-2.69, which is higher than a Diamond.
  • Eco-Friendly: Because Moissanite is not sourced from the earth, it will always be lab grown, making it a better choice for our planet.
  • Price: Moissanite costs significantly less per carat than a Diamond.
